Managing environmental risk

The community expects a high level of environmental performance. Our Environmental Management System (EMS) contains procedures for managing vegetation and waste, and for protecting flora, fauna and birdlife.

As most of the work on our assets is carried out by contractors, we ensure that they comply with all our environmental procedures. For any new project and for many infrastructure upgrades, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is carried out to identify potential environmental risks and mitigation strategies.

The EIA process examines a broad range of issues with the potential to impact on the community, from noise and airborne disturbance during construction, to water quality, flora and fauna, cultural heritage and social impacts. If threatened plants or wildlife are identified, special management practices are implemented to ensure their protection. More information on the EIA process see our Waddamana-Risdon Vale 220kV transmission line project.
