Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are created by all electrical equipment, including domestic appliances such as kettles, microwaves and electric blankets. Electrical wiring in the home and workplace and power lines in the street, also produce EMFs.
Some people are concerned about how EMFs surround transmission lines may affect their health.
The electricity industry in Australia and around the world monitors and supports scientific research into EMFs and their health effects. On balance, scientific evidence does not indicate that exposure to EMFs found around the home, the office or near power lines is a hazard to human health.

You can find more information on EMFs in the Radiation and Health Fact Sheets prepared by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency.
