Our Community

We’re building enduring links with our local community through our sponsorship of the Lenah Valley Primary School’s Bushland Classroom program. The project, which also involves Greening Australia, encourages the young students to learn about the benefits of biodiversity and nature reserves in the local community. The nearby Haldane Reserve provides the perfect location for a bushland classroom.

It’s a real hands-on project, with the youngsters and Transend employees getting their hands dirty together by planting trees and bushes in land under the transmission lines adjoining Transend’s Maria Street Campus and the nearby school yard. The specially selected species will provide a habitat for birds and small mammals while not interfering with the overhead transmission lines, even when the species are fully grown. The project provides a model for sustainable schools and sustainable communities.

We’ve also worked with Greening Australia on other community projects such as trialling control methods for the weed, Spanish heath, in the Wellington Park conservation area near Hobart. Many members of the Transend team also are active in supporting community environmental projects in their spare time, working as Bushcare volunteers.
