Good environmental management is an integral part of our normal day-to-day operations managing and developing the transmission network. We take responsibility for ensuring that our activities are managed in a way that minimises impacts on the environment.
Our commitment to environmental management is explained in our Environmental and Safety Policy. Our independently accredited Environmental Management System and the annual Environment Management Plan ensure that the policy is implemented and our performance is measured and monitored.
To ensure that our commitment to excellence in environment management is being put into action, we require our contractors to have their own environment management plans, consistent with our environment policy, which we examine and approve before work commences.
The biggest environmental challenges we face relate to managing the oil contained in substation equipment, and land and vegetation issues associated with transmission line easements.
