About the project
Completed in 2005 at a cost of $11 million, Mowbray Substation continues to play an important role in securing a reliable electricity supply for the northern Tasmanian city of Launceston. A project has just been completed to prepare the substation for construction of a proposed new 110 kV transmission line from Norwood Substation to Mowbray. The work included installing a second 50 MVA transformer, providing four additional 22 kV feeders and installing a 110 kV bus coupler bay and transmission line bay. The work was carried out at a cost of $6 million.
The benefits
The redevelopment work has paved the way for construction of a new 110 kV transmission line from Mowbray to Norwood to meet Aurora’s request for firm supply to be provided at Mowbray Substation. It also means that one of the transformers or other associated infrastructure can be removed from service for maintenance without impacting on the available supply of electricity for customers.
Completion date
The work was completed by June 2009.
