Proposed new large transmission asset and proposed new distribution asset
Development of the electricity supply network in the Launceston area
Transend and Aurora are proposing the construction of a new large transmission asset and new distribution assets to maintain supply standards in the Launceston area. The area has been defined as that extending from Launceston Central Business District east to the suburbs of St Leonards and Waverley, south to the townships of Evandale and Longford, west to the township of Westbury, and north to Exeter and Dilston.
The proposal has the following major components:- the establishment of a new 22 kV connection point (substation) in the east Launceston area;
- the construction of a new 110 kV transmission line connecting the new substation to the existing Mowbray and Norwood substations; and
- the development of new distribution feeders in the Newstead, Waverley, Ravenswood, and east Launceston areas.
The cost of these works is estimated at $63.5 million, and the work is scheduled to be completed prior to the winter of 2013.
