Hobart Eastern Shore upgrade

Proposed new large transmission asset and proposed new distribution asset
Development of the electricity supply network in the Hobart eastern shore area

Transend and Aurora are proposing the construction of a new large transmission asset and a new large distribution asset to maintain supply standards in the Hobart Eastern Shore region. The region has been defined as the area extending from Risdon Vale in the northwest, to Seven Mile Beach and Pittwater in the east, and south to encompass the southern beach communities of Lauderdale, Clifton Beach and South Arm.

The proposal has the following major components:
  • the establishment of a new 33 kV connection point in the Mornington/Clarendon Vale area;
  • modifications to the 110 kV Lindisfarne–Rokeby transmission line in order to supply the new 33 kV connection point;
  • augmentation of the Lindisfarne Substation transformer capacity;
  • the development of new zone substations in the Kangaroo Bay, Shoreline, and Lauderdale areas; and
  • rearrangement of the associated 33 kV subtransmission network within the region in order to supply the new zone substations.
  • The cost of these works is estimated at $49.0 million, and the work will be completed prior to the winter of 2011.

Transend and Aurora have published an Application Notice in accordance with the requirements of clauses 5.6.6 and 5.6.2(g) of the National Electricity Rules and the consultation process was completed on 23 February 2009. In accordance with clause 5.6.6 (h) of the National Electricity Rules, Transend and Aurora are now publishing a final report.
