Annual planning review

Through our Annual Planning Review process, we take a close look at the performance of our existing transmission network and the supply-demand outlook. Each year, an Annual Planning Report is produced to meet our obligations under the National Electricity Rules and to provide the information required by the Tasmanian Economic Regulator, including an overall assessment of the supply-demand balance in the State over the next 10 years. Both capacity and energy constraints are taken into account in the assessment process.

By analysing the performance of the existing system, we can determine necessary future developments. Measures such as reliability, availability of plant and the number and nature of system incidents are examined closely.

The review provides information on completed network augmentations as well as proposed new work to replace ageing assets and provide for future connection points. Regular consultations are held with distribution company, Aurora Energy, to ensure we take account of its requirements.

In recent years, other important factors such as the impact of climate change and controlling greenhouse emissions have also been taken into account in determining our forecasts. The possible significant growth in non-scheduled generation, especially wind, forms an important part of our deliberations.
