As Tasmania's only electricity transmission network services provider, our ability to transmit electricity safely, reliably and efficiently impacts on every home and business in the State. Our performance has been better than target for each of the past five years and we're working hard to ensure we maintain these standards.
We have 16 directly connected electricity transmission customers, including four generators, 10 industrials and two networks – Aurora Energy's distribution network and Basslink. Each year we receive a number of connection enquiries, many related to potential renewable energy projects while others are keen to discuss possible new industrial loads. We've been closely involved in the development of national guidelines to standardise the customer connection process throughout the National Electricity Market (NEM). These guidelines, which have now been published by our industry association, Grid Australia, ensure a uniform approach by all transmission companies. For more information see 'Getting Connected'.
We've expanded the range of services available to our customers following the acquisition of the telecommunications business arm from Hydro Tasmania in 2008. Our Communications Services business can provide specialist, high-reliability telecommunications services to customers in both the public and private sectors. We're also happy to provide our expertise to help customers resolve difficult engineering issues, particularly in the communications field.
